Language Arts
Word Work
Students can write a sentence for each homophone that shows their understanding of each word. Homophone chili/ chilly doe/dough cord/ chord guest/ guessed tax/ tacks peek/ peak overdue/ overdo principal/ principle quartz/ quarts tied/ tide seen/ scene principle/principal seen/scene metal/medal steak/stake. eight/ate leak/leek mail/male write/right steel/steal knows/nose knew/new bare/bear son/sun tee/tea quarts/quartz pore/pour/poor there/their/they're two/too/to four/fore/for Spelling/Vocabulary Students will receive a new list of vocabulary words every two weeks. The vocabulary program focuses on the meaning and use of the word in oral language and written work. Parents are encouraged to help their child complete some of the activities at home.The following includes the activities students can complete over a two week period:
Reading Comprehension
With your child, read a page in a book or a short article in a newspaper. Then, ask your child to summarize the text selection to include a series of sequential events. Parents can also ask their child specific questions about facts written in the text.
Home Reading Log Students can read to an adult at home and/or read independently. After reading, students will fill-in the chart and a parent or caregiver will sign the Home Reading Log. Please ensure that your child keeps the Home Reading Log in their agenda and return after the end of each week on the following Monday. Library Website

Concluding Sentences
What is the job of a concluding sentence in a paragraph?
Examples of Starters for a Concluding Sentence
To conclude… In conclusion… In other words… Clearly,… Obviously,… To sum up… To summarize… Those are the reasons… After all… *There are many other ways to start a concluding sentence. Letter ReversalSome children will use capital letters in place of lower case letters because they are unsure of how to print the letter. For example, children who are unsure how to print b or d print a capital letter in place of the lower case letter. A helpful strategy that encourages children to check their printing is to think about the word, bed. They will use their hands to form a lower case b and d and imagine the letter e in the middle.

Math
Practise addition and subtraction at home. Students and parents can use a variety of strategies to solve math problems. At the moment, we are learning about, and practising different mental math strategies for adding and subtracting. Mental math strategies will first develop on paper which will ultimately lead to using the strategies to solve math problems mentally.
To increase fluency in math, students are also encouraged to practice multiplication facts at home. Practising multiplication facts with help when solving larger multiplication and division problems, working with fractions and a variety of other math skills. French
Students are building their confidence with daily exposure to French in the classroom. Parents can support their child's learning by practising vocabulary words at home. If parents would like a copy of the vocabulary words, please ask your child to obtain an extra copy to stay at home. As well, there are websites and enjoyable French videos on Youtube for parents and students to watch together.
